Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Luang Prabang - Ban Phouluangtai
We will pick you up from your hotel or guesthouse and take you to the pier for your slow boat trip across the Mekong River. Then a short walk will take you Ban Chomphet where you can explore Eagle Cave and Vat Longkhoun – the once upon a time King’s temple where the king went once a year to meditate for one month. Then we walk to the Lao Loum village of Ban Nakham and onto a mixed ethnic village Ban Nasay. Here you will be able to compare the lifestyles of the Lao Loum, the Khmu and the Leu. We continue on to Ban Taptan, a Khmu village and Ban Som - another mixed ethnic village of Lao Loum, Leu, Taidam and Khmu, where we will take a break for lunch. Throughout our walk we pass through green rice fields, fields of maize and beautiful natural scenery. There are plenty of opportunities for taking photographs – of people and mountains, of houses and village life.

After lunch we continue on our walk to the Hmong village of Ban Mokpalai only a short distance away from another Hmong village - Ban Phouluangtai. The villagers here are your hosts for your overnight stay. They will welcome you with a ceremony and ask you to join with them in drinking Lao Hai – a delicious alcoholic drink made in stone jars and drunk through a bamboo straw. Listen to the villagers music and watch them dancing – a bit more Lao Hai and you will want to join in!

Day 2: Ban Phouluangtai - The Pak Ou Caves - Luang Prabang
Wake in the morning to the sounds of the birds and the village coming alive. Then breakfast with your Hmong family and continue on to the Khmu village of Ban Huaypak and the Taidam village of Ban Nasan. Bamboo is not only used for making handicrafts but here is also eaten as a vegetable. Then it’s only a short walk to the Pak Ou Caves passing through the villages of Ban Huayyor and Ban Muang on the banks of the Mekong River. The Pak Ou Caves are full of thousands of Buddha images – of all shapes and sizes. We the cross the river to have lunch and relax.

Then a slow boat back down the Mekong to Luang Prabang stopping en route at Ban Xanghai, the “whisky” making village – taste the product and buy some of this unique alcohol as gifts for your friends and family.

Please note:
Trekking in Laos does not mean you have to run through jungle all day long. But trekking in Laos means getting away from so called civilization. Prepare yourself for the things that you will experience and learn on a trekking tour in Laos.
