Places to say - rental in Saigon
There are some 15,000 expats living in Saigon, but even with these numbers, there still there does not appear to be a shortage of good-quality rental accommodation.
Unfortunately, living cheaply is not easy. Unless you marry a Vietnamese national and move in with the family, there isn't much chance of you renting a worker's flat (US$50 per month). Unfortunately, the police will not permit it.
The budget market is served chiefly by the mini-hotels scattered all around town. Discounts can be negotiated for long-term rentals at almost any hotel; expect to pay somewhere between US$200 and US$300 per month for a decent air-con room. If you've got a big budget, but don't need a large space, even the big five-star luxury hotels offer steep discounts to long-termers. The name of the game is negotiation.
Expats with a liberal budget have two basic options villas or specially built luxury flats, Villas seem more popular and Saigon has a large supply. Villas which can be rented by foreigners typically cost from US$1000 to US$3000 a month. Real estate agents who cater to the expat market advertise in the Vietnam Economic Times and Vietnam Investment Review.
